Default RE: Exhaust

I have actually done some research into exhausts and have found that though the slipon might add only 3 or 4 horsepower, it is how the torque curve is affected that matters. No not all exhausts are the same!

A more open exhaust is going to take from your torque. Doesn't matter so much if you are a racer who spends all your time in the upper RPM range. If you are riding the street then hurting your torque is definitely going to take from the bikes ridability. when you look into exhausts check out the dyno charts posted online. You may have to do some digging to find them (product review's, forum sites etc.)

A good example is the Akrapovic. This exhaust has the highest horsepower increase, however it has the worst low and mid range torque specs. The Two Bros has a minimal 2-3 horse gain, yet actually increases your peak torque, and makes the overall torque curve smoother. the fact is that most sportbikes are so hot from the factory any product you buy really isn't going to give that big an improvement over stock. It's not like the cruiser market where an exhaust can get you 10 horsepower, and torque really isn't relevant (V-twins have it to spare).

Unless you are looking for looks and sound exclusively, in which case I'm sorry to have taken up your time. In that case I think Micron's color fades are really cool looking. I personally run a Two Bros.

Most defenitely on the ear plugs! I have a D&D and it is loud, but man everyone loves that thing, including me! Just makes me worry cruising through town when the po-po are in sight but I haven't had any problems yet.

I sure hope birdstike is incorrect! I just bought an Akrapovic and I certainly don't want to lose low end torque!!!!
