Engine stumbles at 8000 rpm...
I was out at Sears Point doing a track day last week and towards the end of the day the bike started "stumbling." At first I thought i was running out of gas, but wasn't. The bike felt as if it wasn't getting gas, cutting out then going, and the tach needle would drop and then catch back up. If I shifted up a gear and lowered the RPMs it would go back to normal. It seems to be an intermittent problem, and has happened a few times now, but not every time. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their F4i and if they have a solution.
I have been told it could be a blocked fuel filter or possibly the coils so far. I have taken it into the shop but they can't touch it until the 16th and I have a race coming up at the end of this month. Any suggestions that might help me get it rolling sooner would be great. Thanks!!
Cheers,

i will give the best opinion i can. i am more familiar w/ car mechanics, but it is in the same theory. it does sound more like an intermittent spark problem. if you have the chance when it starts acting up, pull off one 1 plug wire at a time, insert a long screwdriver into the end of the plug wire, and touch the shaft of the screwdriver against one of the valve cover bolts. you should have consistent spark out of each wire. as far as a fuel filter goes, i would think that i would bog more on a continued basis, rather than a certain rpm.

I had this same problem and my FI light would come on at the same time it stumbled. Come to find out my battery cables were jumping off the battery when I was riding. Might try checking that out. I just tightened mine up and it works great now.

hey guys,
thanks for the message about the battery problems, i don't think that's the case this time though as i had just hooked up a new power commander and the leads were good and snug (you have to attach a ground to the negative battery lead )
i think most likely it's the coils at this point...worn out. i will find out the day after tomorrow when i have some time to work on the little beasty.
cheers and thanks again,
