dealer is such a rip..
crap I wrote a long post but lost it lol
anyway
dealerships usually aren't trying to steal your money
they could try to compete with online stores but most dealerships wouldn't stay in business for more than a few months like that
the simple fact is that dealerships are freakishly expensive to run and online parts stores aren't
Honda wants their dealerships to push OEM parts so thats what they have to do, believe it or not Honda or any other manuf is not beyond yanking their brand from a dealership if they aren't happy (BMW did that to a local shop a while back because they decided they no longer wanted their bikes sitting so close to Hondas lol)
custom shops and online stores don't have that pressure
I went by one of my favorite online shop's storefront the other day while traveling for business and discovered just how much cheaper it is to run than a dealership
they had about3-5 employees, a storefront smaller than my bedroom, their phones were ringing off the hook (in the middle of winter) and most of the products they sell can be drop shipped
not to mention the sheer quantity of parts they sell
compare that to an average dealership with anywhere from 10-30 employees, a shop that has to conform to each manufacturer's size and appearance standards, usually $1 million+ overhead including rent, stock parts, bikes, ATVs, tires, tools, equipment, etc
and since they generally don't sell a very large quantity of parts they get a much smaller discount on the parts they do buy so expecting them to compete is ridiculous
think about how many parts guys your local shop has, they have to make enough on the parts they sell to pay these people!
