the bulbs last exponentially longer than filament bulbs and they are brighter so you get noticed more

 

Getting noticed is the main advantage.

IMO I rather have HID low beam and halogen high beam instead of HID high beam to avoid super blinding people and the HID on/off delay. Riding with halogen high beam is enough for me. I'm about to sport the MTEC bulbs for high beam.

I think 5000K is perfect. I have 4500K for my car's retrofit with a very slight hint of blue. 5000K seems a little blue enough to get noticed better without sacrificing brightness like 6000+K. Plus I think super blue looks tacky...but to each his own.

 

Ordered mine on Wednesday, they shipped Thursday and will be here Monday.. sweet.. 35w H7 8000k.. hope they're blue enough.. haha

 

So one of my friends was criticizing the HID's saying that without it being a projector kit, i'll be basically blinding people and not lighting up the road enough. Thoughts? Is it worth investigating have the projectors?

 

From personal experience they are much brighter / do a better job of lighting up the road than the stock bulbs.

they are much brighter and project further, but your friend is right in many ways.. since the lens of our bikes is designed for a halogen bulb, they will scatter the light around.. some worse than others.. true HID setups use a projector.. and right now there is a group purchase on a kit with them in it.. you have to make it though.. the general consensus on them is that retrofitted (correctly) projected with an HID kit works beautiful with a crisp cut off line and no oncoming glare.. but the setup is usually expensive, one off and difficult to make...

If you want to see what a crappy HID setup looks like... you should have a nice hyundai excel or elantra running around.. maybe an old sentra or corolla with a nice 10K blue (or maybe even a purple 12K kit) HID kit that blinds the hell out of everyone near it because the toolbox behind the wheel thinks it makes his clapped out POS look like a Lexus...

You will get more light out of the front of your bike.. not sure how crisp and directed the light will be though... I'd love to see cut off lines from a distance...

JMO and what I have experienced... I'm doing a new xenon halogen bulb (good brand) now... if it isnt enough I'll go for the HID kit.

In the past someone recommended MTEC halogen bulbs for high beams, so I plan on going with that.

Well you are partially right. The light does scatter. It does blind other people but my 06 spec v when it was in its hayday before i returned it to stock to sell was one of the fastest and one of the only procharged spec-v's in the country. assuming that you know anything about forced induction, running 7 lbs of boost on a procharger c1 supercharger and making 273 whp on a conservative 11.5 tune to redline is pretty good. I had 8k HIDs in it. Just because someone chooses to mod a sentra or any other econobox doesnt mean that they are any less smart or that their car is garbage.

I generally like to think the best of people. So what I choose to believe who Turbulenz was talking about were the kiddies that spend all their cash in blinging out their car and none of actually tuning it.

So, given the mods you put into yours, I doubt he was referring to your car
