Default Clutch cable?

I bought a wrecked 01 CBR 600 F4i and have been working on it non stop and finally, today, I took it out for the first ride. The problem I have is that it feels like the clutch is slipping terribly. When I hammer the throttle in any gear it just revs real high, like it's slipping. My question is, could it be a bad clutch cable? The cable that is on it right now is in bad shape because of the wreck. Could it be that the cable is not letting the clutch engage all the way? I will most definitely buy a new cable, but unitl then I thought I'd check other people's opinions.

If the cable is damaged it's very possible it could be binding and not letting the clutch fully engage. It only takes a tiny bit releasing to make the clutch slip. I'd definitely get it fixed before riding it anymore or you'll burn up the clutch in no time

Ok. I hope that's what it is. I bought it from a friend of mine who is mechanically challenged and still beat the bike after he wrecked it. I'm hopin he didn't burn the hell outta the clutch if the cable was'nt letting it fully engage. If the clutch is burned up, how much will a new one cost?
