Default Chain tension issues

Ive adjusted my chain many times but this last time I noticed something isnt correct. I think I may have tweaked the chain. Both sprockets look just fine but as the chain revolves it gets really tight in a certain section then is pretty loose over the rest of the chain making adj very difficult.

What would the ramifications be for an over tight chain? Could the tranny get messed up?

Any ideas of what may have caused this situation and how I can fix it?

Its natural for a chain to have a section that is tighter than the rest. As a chain gets older, you'll notice it more. To relieve tension on that section a little, you can move the chain back a tooth or two on the sprocket & readjust. Yes, you want to have the proper slack in your chain to allow for free movement. Refer to your particular bike's manual for that measurement.

Their called tight spots, and it means its time for a new chain. You have to adjust the chain slack at the tightest part of the chain [while waiting for the new one of course ] which means the loose section will be very loose.

Yes a tight chain can over time reek havoc on your gearbox..not to mention the jerky shifting you will experience...better loose than tight...I once had my chain too tight..ugghh..felt like the already clunky gearbox was gonna EXPLODE Loosen er up

Thanks guys, for all of the suggestions.

I fought with it for a bit yesterday and believe Im OK for awhile.

I oiled her up nice and spent a lot of time finding the tight spot and have adj accordingly. I'm just to the point of the adjustment gauge touching green so I think Ill keep an eye on it and see if I can get a few mo miles before repl
