Chain Tension

Default Chain Tension

hello everyone.

I just purchased a 2002 cbr 600 f4i and i was looking at my bike and the chain is loose. i know its suppose to be at 1 inch play but i dont know how to adjust the chain. do i have to loosen the whole axle or do i play with the brass colored screw on the right and left. thank you for you help

You have to lift the rear wheel off the ground with some sort of swingarm stand, loosen the axle nut, and turn the adjustment screws the same amount on both sides.... make sure both sides are adjusted the same amount.

You dont absolutely have to lift the rear tie up just loosen the axle and the 2 swingarm bolts. Just turning them will pull the tire. But just to make sure its coming out, Use a piece of 2X4 and tap the front of the tire so you know its moved.

Also rotate the tire and check the chain in multiple places to make sure that you have 1 inch of play all the way around.

Instructions are in the manual, and I BELIEVE the swingarm on most years... but not sure about the swingarm. It might just be spec, not instructions.
