Default chain tension

i have an 02 954 with 23k on it, and im wondering about chain tension. how much slack should there be and do you check it right after a ride or when its cold, as well as how is it to adjust and how do you do it. What else would you recommend at this mileage for maintenace, i bought it with 13 k and have done very little in terms of maint. any advice would be great... i do change the oil every 3k though.

With the bike resting on the ground, grab the bottom middle of the chain and move it up and down, there should be about an inch of movement. It should not matter if you check it hot or cold, it does not get that warm to effect it. As far as other maintenance, check your plugs, check air filter, tire pressures, coolant protection level. You may also think about changing your brake fluid if its never been done, not so much the milage but the age of it. Thats about all i can think of at the moment. To answer any ?'s you may have about doing some of this download the service manual stickied at the top of the 954 section, it will help you a lot.

I agree with TK.I replace my brake fluid and coolant every year just to be on the safe side.Brake fluid looks dirty after a few months especially if the bike is left out in the sun too long.
