Default Chain Question

Hey guys. I just recieved this kit for my 01:

http://www.sprocketcenter.com/p/1190...t---honda.html

The chain comes with 112 links so I first took off 4 links to make it the stock 108. After mocking it all up on the bike, even with the adjusters half way out - the slack in the chain was severe. So I went ahead and took out two more and made it 106. Now the chain appears to be a little too short - like a 1/4" short - with the adjusters all the way in. I prob should have just adjusted it way out but at the time I thought the adjusters should be in the realm of "new". Anyone know if I can force the chain to give me the last lil bit or is that even a good idea? Is it posible to safely put a a link pair back in? Do I have to buy another chain? Should I have to move the adjusters way out to make the chain within tolerances or is something wrong? I low sided rear first into a curb so I just need some sound advice before I start worrying. Also don't want to spend more money to fix my F up. Thanks!

Default RE: Chain Question

what size sprockets did you get? different sprocket sizes will have an effect of the chain adjuster reference marks.

If the chain is too tight with the adjusters all the way in, you will need to put a pair of links back in and loose half your adjustment. (not that big a deal)

You can put 2 masterlinks in, but I would definatly use the rivet type, not the clip type.

I went with the 15-46 sprockets - which is why I didn't think it would change much.

Can a shop put a link back in easily and have it be safe? Rather not have two master links - even with the rivet type - though putting a link back in is kinda the same thing.

stock = 108 links total, 53 sideplates , 2 more links for the master = 108...........

down one in the front its hard to say but its probably same length as stock cause if you remove another 2 links it will probably be too short....

Sprocketcenter sent me the wrong length chain as well.......so much for thier webiste saying the chain is cut to correct length....

they can put a link back in for you, as far as I know, it will be 2 masterlinks. As long as it is a high quality rivet done with the right tool, no worries
