Default Chain durability/replacement question

My F4i is coming up on 13,000. I'm religious about cleaning the chain regularly, so it appears to be in good shape.

Any thoughts on the typical mileage I should expect out of this chain before replacing it?

Thanks,

Paul

Manual recommends replacing the chain at 12k.

Things to look for:

- Rust or other unnatural coloration.
- Looseness. Is the chain stretched all the way, and still very slack? If so, replace!
- Sprocket condition. It's recommended to change the chain and sprockets at the same time, so if your sprocket is kind of warn down, it's good to get them all out of the way.

Cleanliness of the chain isn't as important as how much it has worn and/or stretched. Those are what you should pay attention to.

It's worn when you can longer keep it within the recommended slack.

Thanks for thoughts, guys. It still is adjustable within limits, but barely. I think I'll go with a chain replacement shortly.

Wrong info!
The manual does NOT recommend any certain mileage for chain REPLACEMENT.The factory recommends replacement when it gets into the RED zone on the adjuster bar.

Cleanliness is as important as it being worn,it not being kept clean CAUSES it to wear fast.

Clean your chain regularly ,adjust it regularly and lube it every 500 miles it will go a LONG ways.My stock chain on my f4i went 21k miles before i replaced it.Sprockets still look new but it had 3 links that worn out and started binding.

I do agree on replacing the chain and sprockets as a set.I installed the RK chain kit(steel sprockets/chain kit) it was under 160.00

Same here, 19,000 miles before the chain started binding but the sprockets were perfect and the chain only had gone half way threw the slack zone.

You're right, I read one line off while skimming the manual not too long ago. Should replace brake fluid every 12k, apparently.
