When you turn the key on, do you hear the fuel pump prime? Kind of a whining sound

Ya if it quit while he was riding it then it sounds like a fuel problem. If it was sitting and wouldn't start one day i would say it would be the plugs.

make sure the all the wires are connected
check the battery
check the tip sensor (bank angle sensor)
and check your spark plugs, it might be bad

^ ditto!
sometimes it can be a poor connecions within the wiring or a broken ground.

i had the same prob. first i checked to hear the fuel pump which i did. then i checked the fuel line that goes out of the bottom of the tank to make sure it was fully connected, it was. then i pulled out the fuel pump from the tank and there it was.......there is a fuel hose that is internally attached to the fuel pump and it popped off i guess when i was doin a few wheelies. i just got the same fuel hose from the store and made sure it was long enough to avoid this problem again. hope this helps....
