cam chain rattle..talk to a shop today..
Ok, I called shop today inquiring about cam chain tensioner for my 01 F4i.
Anyways, the guy told me that it's better to change the cam chain because it's really the problem not the tensioner. He said that replacing the tensioner with a manual one will just trhow off the timing. Any truth to this? Anyone replaced the cam chain intead of the tensioner to fix the rattle problem?
Thanks!

That doesn't seem to fit with the consensus of the forum. It sounds like the shop is trying to have you do some expensive work that doesn't really need to be done. It is well known (Honda mechanics included) that the tensioner is the problem. I haven't heard of anybody replacing the cam chain to solve this specific problem.
You might want to find a new place to get your work done. I wouldn't be able to trust their opinion after a blatant lie like that.

last time a dealer told someone that, they also said something about replacing power steering fluid and honking fluid. they didn't say anything about headlight oil though...j/k...
it's the cctl...not the cam chain...ape will not cause you to jump timing unless it backs out...but any failed tensioner may do that for you.
