yea mang...the pads have a groove on them. so if you don't see a groove on your pads, it's time to change them.
as far as fluid, bleed as often as you can with an F4i...why? will keep them from binding as a lot of gunk builds up around the pistons...so take the calipers off, remove pads, squeeze lever slightly to get pistons to extend, wipe away the gunk around them, use silicon brake grease or something aroud the pistons, push them back in and then pads and then install, torque, etc...
then you go with the bleeding. i would do so every 6K or so...
