Bike powers down on attempted ignition on.

Bike powers down on attempted ignition on.
So I rode my bike under high heat and parked it just as the fan turned on. The temperature was reading 234 and the seat itself felt very hot. I put the key in, turn the key to unlock and then turn it to on. The screen then powers down. Or maybe more correctly there is a lack of power so it won't show any of the readouts/displays. I wait a few hours for it to cool down then try again. This time after turning it to on the screen shows up, but when I press the ignition everything turns off again. Clock is also shut off. I turn the key back to lock and the clock turns back. The needle for my ?tach? also does the startup windup. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Do I need to replace my battery? If so what should i replace it with? Is there anything else I should check?

First things first, sounds like a bad battery (your fan could have turned on and stayed on?? or the battery crapped out?). But if you have a volt meter, get it out and check your battery voltage. Before and after you turn the key on. If you don't have a meter, you could remove the battery and take it to have it tested. Establish your available voltage at the battery, and go from there. Could be a loose connection, fues, you never know till you look. Bikes are turds like that.
