Bike overhaul time, ss8 vs other fork fluid
So, I've only got 3,000 miles to go till I hit 64k, and I do major service every 32k. So soon I'll be replacing the cctl, setting valve clearance, flusing brake fluid and coolant, replacing plugs, and changing the fork fluid. I've been reading up, and it seems SS8 breaks down pretty quickly vs other fluids. I see pro RSF 7.5wt has about the same cst rate @40c as SS8, but its cst@100c is almost double. I think this will just mean the adjustments are more stable regardless of temp, but I thought I see if anyone else has thoughts. I really wish I could find the cst's of SS47 but I can't anywhere.

For what its worth, I just rebuilt a set of forks replacing lucas synthetic (green in color when new) with the standard honda ss8. The previous lucas against 30k stock fork seals resulted in a lot of unwanted sludge within the shock itself at the base which was difficult to clean out and the fluid was nearly black. The other shocks i rebuilt @ about 25k had honda ss8 and were clean inside and not leaking and the fluid was relatively red still. The top right of the first image has a plastic mixing cup with the remaining fluid that was drained from the shock. Some sludge and darkening is normal, but i was cupping the front tires with the same shocks before i blew the seal and set them up the same. Rides wonderful now. Both are 10w fluid.. I ride year round and live in ohio for refrence.
