Bike dies while riding
recently, while im riding... my bike will shut off (i'm not at a stop light or idling) and the red warning light appears so i'll have to restart it while riding. as a result, i did an oil change and it happened once again. the coolant levels look ok, rear brake levels are fine, and my front brake fluid level seems to be full since i see a bubble that's at the top of the circle. The red warning light is the the left of the neutral light. There are only 1500 miles on my bike and it's a 2004 f4i.
any idea why my bike is shutting off while riding? does this mean that the engine is seizing? It can be easily restarted by hitting the ignition button.

Red light means your have a problem with your oil pressure. When you changed the oil did you also replace the filter? If so, my money is on the filter not beingtight enough. There is a lot of pressure running thru these machines and the oil filter must be very tight. Shops torque them but i'm not sure of specs. I just use a monkey wrench and give it a good 1/4" turn and never had any problems taking the filter on or off.
To clarify when you fire it up the red light and flashing oil light turn off right? So when you crank it is when the red light comes on? ...Check your filter.

If your bike shuts off your red light will come on anyways because the bike will reset itself with the key switch turned on. I doubt its something with your oil. You probably have a loose connection or something. Check your battery terminals to make sure they are on tight.
True DT. I assumed light kicked on before the stall. But even still bike would probably cont driving anyways just no good. My thought is if lightkicks once you wind her up which would beprior to stall, your loosingpressure and bike is liable to shut off if it gets too bad. Thinking small cuz thats probably what it is (something minor)...Trying to be positive here.
well, it can be an oil pressure issue. however, i and few others here had something like this happen to them when its really hot outside. This happened twice to me. It was over 80-90oF(humid) weather and the bike just shut down while Im doing 80mph @8k rmps. The reason why it just shut down was that the voltage regulator was too hot. It takes seconds to cool off, so when you pull over the bike should restart right away.
let us know if this is your problem.
