Bearing Install - Help
Took off my front and back wheels for a powder coat. The tire shop is not a real bike shop but still offered to reinstall my bearings for me. I have a suspicion that they did not do it properly. When comparing the photo of my rear wheel and the shop manual it looks like the side with the driven flange wheel bearing is not seated deep enough. Also when moving the tire around the distance collar (shaft between the two bearings) can rattle around and is not secured in place.
I started all of this work a month ago but the damn shop took 3 weeks to paint my wheels. I can barely recall what these parts looked like coming apart
So other than softly hammering the bearing in do I need to do anything with the distance collar -- or will it just slide into place? I gave the bearing a light hammering with a socket to distribute the force and it budged about 1/8". It feels like any farther will take some real hits.
