Default Battery charge help

Im new on the forums. Just doing some research as I'm having some problems with my new bike.

Bought a CBR600fs (based in the UK) a couple of weeks ago (think its the same as the F4i). First outing out and road for about 5 minutes to get used to the bike. Switched off to have a chat, then went further a field. Pulled over about 20 minutes later, went to start and the bike wouldnt even turn over. Manage to bump it and get it home.

I put the bike on charge for a day till the meter read full. Went for another ride, was out for about 20mins and the bike died as I was coming upto a roundabout, wouldnt start, no readings on the dials.

Got the bike home in a van, took seat off, the positive terminal on the battery was flapping about. Tightened it all up and it started up first time. So went for a ride tonight, road for about 10 mins, fill up, the bike wont start. Bump it and get it home.

Now the battery was replaced by the seller in January. He said he replaced it as he had similar issues. Hes kept the bike plugged into the charger the whole time since he bought the battery and says hes had no issues.

The top of the battery was missing when I took it apart and the little plastic caps had popped off. It seemed pretty dry.... It holds charge at 12.7v when switched off but just drops when the bike is running.

So does anyone know where I should start looking for problems? I dont think a new battery will solve anything... I'd love to be wrong mind.

Sorry for the long post. Cheers in advance for the help.

I'd replace the R/R. The F4i R/R is notorious for Failures

12.7 V charge while off sounds right.

Try taking voltage readings which the bike started and rev'd.

Just been doing some extensive testing then:

Battery holds a charge of 12.8v. When bike first started and revved upto 5k it went up to 15v however I never saw that again through out the testing. Turned the lights on and it droppped back down, would not charge up with lights on while revving. All in all after a few hours work with testing other parts of the system I think its new regulator time.

the R/R takes excess voltage and converts it into heat. With a failing unit, the battery can overcharge. It's a lot like pouring water into a bucket. Without a hole in the bucket, the bucket will overflow, hense, the battery overcharges. You shouldn't show a charge of 15 volts. Normal charge for a 6 volt battery is 7 volts, 14 volts for a 12 volt battery, 28 volts for a 24 volt battery, etc etc. replace that thing and you should hopefully be as good as new.
