Default Basic maintenance?

Well, My drivers license is suspended until the 26th. SO I've barely driven the bike. Just around neighboorhood a bit. So I guess I should do some work to it before I get my license. I'm getting Frame sliders and some small appearance things. I was wondering about maintenance though. The bike is an 02 F4i with 11k, what all should I get done? Was thinking coolant, oil, and filling up fluids. Is there a right up on doing your own coolant and oil for the bike? I've done it on my car a bunch.. but No idea where anything is located on the bike. Also what kind of other fluids are there? (dumb question?) And what kind of fluids do I use, as far as coolant/oil. (I know you use car oil)

what kind of oil do you recommend?

what are some other things I can do at home (with simple hand tools) as far as maintenance goes? Air filter? Fuel filter? (I should get the repair manual huh? )

And for lubing the chain is there some kind of special "chain lube" ? And how do I check if it needs to be adjusted. Thanks

If you do a search on oil you'll see all types of opinions, I personally use synthetic do to the high RPM's again that is debated constantly. I use Chain Wax for my chain, don't remember who makes it. As for the chain I think it is 1 3/4 inches before you need to adjust it. If you do searches for all your questions they are all there, and you can form your own opinions on alot of the conflicting info.

You (really) need a user manual + service manual before you do any service. Yes all of the maintenance you mentioned can be done at home (very useful if you have the toolkit that came with the bike)

I'm also at 11k+ on an '02. This bike has a service milestone at 12k. Air filter and brake fluid needs change besides the regular oil etc. Check service manual (e.g. at www.stephygee.com or buy on ebay). I also did a spark change, but only because I suspected some problems. Turns out the plugs were great.

Fluid checks : Fuel(87+ octane), Engine oil, Brake fluid & Coolant as in manual, Chain lube (from local bike shop)

Besides what's recommended in the service manual, I'd say run seafoam (www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm) in your next tank of gas. cleans up stuff very well.

Also, you might want to check if it's making noise around 4500 rpms (search CCT or CCTL on this forum)

Check your highway mileage at some point... this should give you an indication of sensor, fpr and other problems if any... should be around 45mpg unless you're really pushing the bike.
