Default Air Induction Question F4i

I have an 03 F4i and i noticed where the air comes in the plastic intake tubes there is a small triangle shaped canister on the top of the tubing and a molded lager triangle shaped canister on the bottom before the 3 inch rubber intake hose that goes to the air filter box, does anyone know what the purpose of these canisters are?

I am assuming he is refering to part #9. I have them on mine and yea, no idea what they do for it.

The best thing I can think of it is a device that will change the harmonic of the air box. I would guess it stops any standing waves from ruining the ram air effect at certain constant speeds. Another thought is that it is shaped that way for a reason, the little triangular shaped airbox (#9) in question is connected to the main airbox (via part #11) may act a 'trap' or absorb a surge for sounds that may be created so that the intake tube doesn't sound like a church organ.

I think we need a mechanical engineer that specializes in fluid dynamics to really answer this question.

I have mine removed because i have switches on my air dam covers it runs and sounds exactly the same. Right now I have my air covers off i can put my finger over the hole and I dont even feel any air coming out. Im curius if you can cut the bottom piece off for more of a ram air effect?

They are the Air Intake Resonators and from what I gather, they are supposed to lessen intake noise... I cut both of mine off when I installed my LP flush mounts... I Really didn't see any performance difference, but then again I did a few mods afterwards (like a pcIII and sync'ing the injectors) that may have compensated for any performance loss. After I cut them, I took black duct tape and covered the holes both inside and out so now it's straight tube (well as straight as you can get with duct tape and a dremel tool) and the bike runs fine...

Took mine off and can't tell a difference. Maybe with the sound there is some.

Well without the plastic air ducts and the just running with the rubber hoses to the air box it is a little loud when you open the throttle but it souds cool and seems like it has some more pick up and go but im worried about WATER when i ride in the rain is that gonna harm anything from the full stock set up to the removed parts just running the 3" rubber hoses?

I noticed the bottom triangles had debris in mine. some
dead bugs, a rock or two, stuff like that. I considered for
a second they may be a garbage trap.

but realistically, they probably are for harmonics. unless, like somone
else said, they help reduce standing waves on the intake. just like exhuast cones
keep standing waves from running back up the exhaust into the head and cancelling the exahust stroke
