Hi all,

I'm about a week out from my first track day. I have an F4i, 2004 model. I'm going to remove the mirrors, and I also want to disable my lights before taping them up is pulling the fuse(s) advisable on this bike or should I unplug bulbs instead?

Any other general advice on bike prep day for the bike? (I have fresh Pilot Power tires, fresh fluids, good brakes).

be sure to put a few hundred miles on those tires, or scrub them with sand paper lightly. if you hit a track with REALLy fresh tires, they are slick as hell

 

You do not have to do this.

people change tires at the track all the time and after just a couple laps they are broken in.

Make sure you change your radiator fluid out from propylene glycol stuff to water and water wetter. Safety wire. Make sure your brakes are good as well as good brake fluid.

Have fun and welcome to the addiction! You'll find the F4i is a very capable track bike. Here is what I do:

Remove mirrors, install block-off plates.
Pull headlight and horn fuses.
Unplug brake lights.
Remove license plate and bracket assembly.
Remove rear turn signals.
Remove bulbs from front turn signals.
Tape headlight, front turn signals, and brake light lenses.


Also, if you haven't done this already- have your suspension dialled in by a pro. It will make a HUGE improvement in how the bike handles and only costs ~$40.00.

 

If you can, trailer your bike to the track. Or at least make sure you have a ride back!
I don't think you'll end up safety wiring, so just check if all the bolts are tight. starting with oil drain plug, then wheel/suspension bolts. Other than that, the essential minimal things are only taping lights and removing mirrors. If you have a stock fender then keep the lic plate, else make sure the mount is supersecure/remove it.

Hey guys, I thought I'd post back a follow-up. First of all, thanks for the replies all helpful info. Well, my first two track days did not happen due to foul weather, but the 3rd time was indeed a charm. I went on Oct 5th at Cresson (Texas near Ft Worth) and it was an absolute blast. My buddy rode with me for 2 sessions and he had his video cam so we got some excellent footage. At the lunch break, I got the suspension adjusted and that helped a lot too. Just like my buddy says, it is as addictive as heroin. I'm hooked! LOL

 

definitely not addicted to the cost...this will be one of those once in a blue moon type of things
