alright, i bought my 04 f4i back in april and changed the oil at the beginning of summer. i don't know what was in it before hand, but i put in T3 oil from a honda bike dealer. i didnt have a single issue until after about 2000 miles on the new oil, 2nd gear is slipping out and back down to neutral most times that i accelerate up through 9 and 10 thousand r's. i get the neutral light and everything.

clutch play is fine, i even adjusted the shift lever down so i knew i was getting the full and complete shift in from first to second. i just want to know the likelihood of it being caused by the oil and not a shift fork / dog.

 

Uh-oh, it sounds like the shift fork. The same thing happened to mine. I just put a salvaged tranmission in it for 400. If I had to do it over again i would have jsut fixed 2nd gear. The parts are not what is expensive itis the labor, unless you are mechanically inclined. Mine would be in 2nd till you got on it then it would pop out. Sorry to hear this but I have heard that this is a common issue.

Can we say "few times in 2 seasons is not an issue" or can I expect it more and more often to come...?
