This just happened to me on getting off the highway. scared the F outt me cause i was going over 90 and it strated bucking. The FI Light came on and rpms went down to around 1k. i pulled the clutch in and came to a stop the light went off and i went on it happened the same a cpl more times... Its an 02 f4i with just over 15000 miles. I put in a new battery last summer, new air filter a cpl weeks ago. I only run 91 fuel, and i add in lucas fuel cleaner a lil bit every other tank. This is the first time it ever happened. I checked the oil, its good and fresh, Half a tank of gas, no lines pinched, no loose wires, nothing burnt or shorted out, all the connectors are tight... it got laid down about two weeks ago but i only had to replace the front tire, bearings, and stator case. but has had no problems sense... So im at a loss... anyone that can help!?

Add me to the list. I just joined this forum in my search for the soultion. This is my first bike(2002 600 F4i) ive only had it for 5 days. It just started this issue of bucking/hesitating after the bike has been riden for 45min or so. Rpms drop from where ever they are down to zero for a split second and the red FI light comes on at this time then goes away immediately, and so on and so on.

I guess ill check the battery terminal connections first, then do spark plugs and see what she does. It has 25k miles and the previous owner(who owned it for 2 years) said he never changed plugs or battery. Maybe its time for both. On top of all this their is paint overspray inside the gas tank so i guess its possible the fuel filter is partially clogged.

Well as soon as i removed my seat i saw the issue...the positive battery terminal had vibrated loose. Cant belive it even ran! Just for good measure i replaced the plugs and installed a new battery and used red loctite on the battery terminal screws. No issue since..

Hey everyone, here is my new FI light issue that I hope you guys can help me out with. I have read most of this post and its nothing like the issues some of you are experiencing. Actually the only issue is the light coming on itself. Im not having any bucking, rmp issues, bike dying.....nothing. I was out riding yesterday, bike running fine and at some point I looked down and the light was on. When I got home, I let the bike sit for a few minutes, turned the key to the on position and the light turned off. I went out for a ride today to see if it happened again and this time I noticed that right before it came on, the speedometer went to 0. The speedometer was working fine, went to 0, light came on and the speedometer started working fine again?? I got home and checked the battery which is fine, gas is good and even put a little bit of injector cleaner in it. I dont see any loose wires anywhere? Also when the speedometer went to 0, the rpm's worked fine. Im stumped on this one, anyone have any advice??

yea it may be your speedo cable, or your stator wires. They run right next to each other. You may also have gotten some oil grease or other stuff on the connectors. Try getting some electical spray cleaner and taking them apart and cleaning them as well as checking the wires for slits, crimps or anything else. hope this helps.
