Default 2001 f4i idle

Just picked up a 2001 f4i. The bike never ran very well when I got it and just finished doing the things I did not like. Put in new plugs, removed the pc3 usb, removed a scorpio alarm. Made sure all connectors were proper, wiring an such. Took the bike out today and the one thing that it is doing...... Bike ran perfect, all through the gears, cruising, full throttle, idle perfect, seems no problems at all. Sitting at a light, the idle would start to fall and then the bike would die. It would start back up every time, idle perfect then start to fall after 30 secs of idle. I could give it slight throttle which would keep the bike from dieing, but wouldn't pick back up until I started to move. As with a PC, the o2 sensor is not used. The exhaust is plugged. Did this model come with an o2? I can not find any wiring for the o2. How do I check for codes? Only mod on the bike is a two brothers slip-on. This is my 1st fuel injected bike so I am kind of lost. Any help would be great!!!

O2 sensors are only on 06 f4i and California models if I'm not mistaken.

I have an 01 f4I I purchased in july. my bike started fine the first month. Then it got harder to start. Had it looked at and it was the "fuel pressure regulator". Only the california models have O2 sensors. It could be the "FPR" or maybe ur idle control. Its usually on the left side of the bike is what I was told.

Yes, that's where it is on my bike. The idle control is down low, near the stator cover / kickstand. The FPR is under the tank, also on the left side. Both are easy to get to, and the FPR is easy to replace, and fairly cheap, if need be.

Edit: That's left sitting on the bike, right facing it from the front.

What part of Kentucky are you from?

If you live close enough I could probably help you with a lot of things on it

All 06 models have an O2 sensor. Not applicable here but for info sake.

I had a similar problem for a while, although for me it was happening mostly under deceleration when I pulled the clutch in (happened to me occasionally at lights to, which is why I'm bringing it up). The RPMs would fall to idle, hover there for a little bit, fall off to like 500, and die. Don't know if that's related to your problem, but for me, I went into the wiring to try to fix other problems, got some wires grounded better, and haven't had the problem since.

I have read that the fpr is an issue on these bikes. The bike has 14,000 miles on it and as far as the wiring goes, the bike has not been molested. When I can, i will put a fpr in it just in case and see how it goes. The last guy put an undertail on it and did a poor job. Im still wiring in turn signals, license plate light, etc. Still in work. The bike runs great so far, looks good, but having my f2 since 1996, i am still having a hard time getting used to the f4i. I will keep everyone up to date when I do know more. Another note, was out riding the f2 today and past an early model cbr1000. It was in great shape, set up to tour. Sure would to see more bikes like that on the road. Ill post some pics of mine when I can. Also, Im in Glasgow, ky. 30 miles north of bowling green. Thanks for all the advice so far

Glassgow is around 3 hours from me, I'd gladly help ya out if I could get over that way sometime. I seen you added me on Facebook, maybe we could get together for a ride this summer sometime, Me and a friend of mine normally take all day rides atleast twice a week, and never have a direction planned. Just jump on the bikes and go.
