Hey guys, I just bought an 04 f4i and love it. Unfortunately, I'm heading back to school the 10th, and probably won't have time to get it inspected and tagged before hand. More than likely, it will be in my garage until the spring. Being completely new to the sportbike scene, any suggestions for what I should do when I put it up? Barring a weekend trip home, which is highly unlikely, I probably won't be starting her up again until christmas and really riding again until spring. Cheers

 

Fill the tank with fuel. Use a little fuel stabilizer in there if you want to, but it should be fine for 9 months without.

Get a battery tender for the battery.

If you can, get front and rear stands to keep the weight off the tires.

If you choose to cover it, cover it with a loose, light colored sheet. If it's too dark and tight under there it will attract rodents and the battery/fuel tank wont be able to breathe.

 

Full tank of fuel, front and rear stands are great ideas.

I'd recommend removing the battery entirely and bringing it indoors (or the garage is fine if it's insulated/warm enough, depending on how wintery your locale gets). Leave it on the tender.

For a bit of added protection, cover the opening of your exhaust with something, such as a thick plastic bag and a rubber band. It'll keep critters from deciding to make a home in there (has never happened to me or anyone I know personally, but I've heard of it and wouldn't rule it out completely from happening).

Demon's cover rule sounds a bit outside the box for me (all of the major brands wouldn't sell dark, tight-fitting covers if this happened so often). Maybe it's more common for rural, barn-type areas or something. I don't know. I'd say a typical motorcycle cover is a great idea, but that's based on my own personal experience. Maybe Demon has had worse luck with critters, lol.
