Clean and lube ur chain every 300-500 miles or so depending on what kind of riding andweather conditions you ride in. Change the oil every 3000 miles or so. Every time you go out to ride check the chain, tires, take a basic run over of the bike to make sure everything is in working order. Personally, i'd check the tire pressure every time you go to get gas, if not more, because that can change handling, performance, treadwear, and gas mileage if they are under/over pressure. Your manual should include a basic maintinance list with lists on when to change ur chainand sprokets and the like andWhen to inspect them. If you dont havea manual Iwould reccomend downloading or buying one.
