clutch basket could be it and carbs out of sync could cause it to knock...check your carb sync!!!!

At least for my bike I have done a carb sync so I know that isn't causing any issues.

The consensus seems to be that it's the clutch basket making some noise and that it isn't anything to be worried about. My bike has been running like a trooper for the last two years and the noise hasn't got any worse.

People could be experiencing similar noises caused by different issues but clutch basket noise seems likely to be what a number of people are hearing.
