Default Sediment or flaky material in coolant

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a 93 CBR600F2 with only 13,000+ miles. I've given it a fairly good visual inspection pursuant to everyone's favorite: http://www.clarity.net/~adam/buying-bike-content.html#4.

I have one concern regarding the coolant. I examined the coolant in the overflow and found it to be green to darkish green with some sediment or flakey material present.

Is this a reason for concern? What is this stuff?

Most likely someone flushed it out with tap water at some point. The sediment is probably the minerals in the tap water, hence why you use distilled. I doubt you have any problems though. If you did, it would just be the pump or the thermostat not working, which would cause over heating or a very slow engine warmup

What they said. That sediment can collect on the sides of the bottle too, plus, the F2 overflow bottle is typically only for outflow.

Drain the coolant if you're concerned, inspect what actually comes out of the motor. If fairly clean - flush and then refill with your fluid of choice.
