If you're having trouble, I'd say that'd be a good place to start. I have a homemade balance-ometer, and I swap vacuum caps and tubes all day long when I'm tuning it.

Yeah, it won't make a difference if you just pull the cap off and replace it with the tube. No worries there...

Mr Jimmyhoffa

could you please write here your procedure with the homemade carbtune, because i already read 3 or 4 procedures and all are different.

someone says, first you must sync carbs 1-2 then carbs 3-4 and final 1-4. but another says first sync carbs 1-2 then carbs 2-3 and final carbs 2 -4 because the carb 2 is the base.

So please just write your procedure and thanks for your time.

Cris

I've never sync'd an F2 but surely it's the same as the 900RR. You sync carbs 1,2,4 to #3. It's like that on several models. Most don't even have an adjustment screw for #3. If that isn't correct, then yes please post the procedure. I'd like to know it as well.

That's how I do it. Balance 1,2,4 with respect to 3. I get perfect idle and snappy response, so I'll assume I did it right. Given that I use food-colored water with a very low density as compared to the high density fluids used in the professional tool, my balancing should be more accurate as well. (...and it was 5 dollars to make my tool )

The reference carb on the F2 is the #2 carb, I believe.... not the #3. (My 1000F is the #3, too)

No, Jimmy's right on this one. The reference carb is #3, the third from the left.

well it is #2 depends on how your looking down on it. either way you can figure it out cuz you cant adjust it.. So with the bike running and the vacuum port unplugged for 10 seconds is no biggy ?

#1 is ALWAYS the first from the left (as sitting on bike). That goes for anything. So the reference IS #3. I haven't had an F2 or F3 come my way in a while (here lately just those dang 4wheelers). Good to know for future reference. Great tip with the colored water. I'll probably convert mine over to it. Always wondered why the didn't use a safer liquid than mercury. I mean that stuff is downright deadly.
