Default more engine woes... poor ebay transaction with used engine *rant*

Long story short, I have been bump starting my bike for the past few months because of an issue with the starter system on my f2 (pretty much cant be fixed)

I finally got enough money for a replacement used engine so I purchased one from ebay with 18,000 miles. Shipped out quick and was waiting for me at home when I got there...

Now to the bad part:

Red flag #1: UPS delivered my engine in a CARDBOARD BOX... nuff said

Red flag #2: Huge dark spot on side of box... hmm looks like oil

Red flags #3,4,5,6,...: Opened up box to find my poor engine with 1 thin layer of styrofoam on top and NOTHING ON THE BOTTOM. As we pick the engine up out of the box, I notice the oil cooler case is CRACKED with a big chunk broken off. The oil pan is cracked and broken off at the drain plug. Thermostat housing is snapped off. Engine mount is broken. Various welded pieces on engine.

Now the listing said "just bolt up and RIDE..."

Seems to me like the shipping company may have dropped it on that side (duh)

Even if it is the shippers fault, its also the sellers fault for packing it so sh*tty. This is the SECOND used engine I've purchased through fleabay and both times they have been crap.

My question is how should I go about this? This guy should give me a full refund right? I need an engine and have the money but due to idiots not knowing how to ship I still dont have one. Do I have to drive 2000 miles to pick up a used engine???

Dude, this almost sounds like me a few months ago. Except I had to make a three hour drive to pick up my used "bolt up and drive" condition engine and it had compression problems. They agreed to swap but they didnt reimburse me for labor or gas to drive three hours. I would try to give them a chance to establish their character and let them swap engines with you, shipping all on their part. If not, you might have to make a couple reports with ebay and maybe the BBB if its a small business. Hope the situation works out for you man.

I'm def giving them a chance to resolve the issue... I have seen the guy post on here, and can probably ruin his credibility but like I said, I'll give him a chance. If he gives me a full refund I'll even leave him positive feedback. We'll c tho

Take clear and detailed pics of everything, especially the shoddy method of packing and how it looked when you opened the box. You may need it for legal reasons later. Also, print off a copy of the eBay listing that said "just bolt up and ride".
