Default Fuel problems, anyone?

Alright, first off, sorry mods for all the threads, but i cant see how to delete my old ones and for some reason it wont let me post on one of mine.....

My bike will not fire up, ive been diagnosing this problem for a few days now...well i changed the plugs, and everything.

I am not getting fuel, I know this because it will not fire at all, I sprayed a bit of starting fluid in the intake and fired right up. There are two lines to my gas tank. Obviously the big one goes to the petcock, but where does the smaller one go to? It was disconnected when I took it apart and there was a line coming out of the intake/carb area that was perfect length and size for the smaller line coming off the gas tank. Im not sure if the lines are messed up or my petcock is stuck in the off position or something? I have no idea...any insight?

The small line that goes from the nipple under your cyl 1 carb goes to the small nipple on your petcock.

To test to make sure your petcock is working correctly, turn your petcock to on or reserve, unhook your fuel line (put somthing under it to catch fuel) remove the vacuum line from the nipple under your carb, and suck on the end of it. If your petcock is working correctly, the fuel will come out of the fuel line. (again be sure to have something ready to catch the fuel unless you want gas all over)

The line im talking about isnt to be mistaken for the vacuum line for the carb...I got it running because I did forget the vacuum line "facepalm" but it still runs pretty rough and its leaking a good amount of fuel down the headers, I need to figure out where thats coming from now....A local shop wants $120 to clean the carbs, for someone that has never done it before could I do it in an afternoon or not?

If youve never done it before, expect it to take a little time. But after youve done it once or twice, you can clean em out in a couple hours.

Just follow these steps to get you on the right track

Make sure to get your jets nice and clean.

Cleaning the carbs isn't hard, you just need to be fastidious and careful. The worst part is getting them off and on. I think you could do it in an afternoon if you have some wrenching experience. Make sure to take out all the jets and the pilot screws and blow them out. While you have them out, it's probably a good idea to see if the pilot screws are all at a similar height. You will need a D-tool to adjust and remove them. That would help a lot with idle issues.

When you say leaking fuel down headers, you do mean carb boots right?

Headers, exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes, whatever, haha, Im not sure where its leaking from, its obviously above the exhaust pipes and its below the fuel petcock and hoses up there, I took the bike for a ride after some seafoam and I finally got it running, it idled like it was having trouble, and sometimes it would drive perfect, amazing powerband, and the other half it would just crap out on me and barely even go....Im thinking carbs
