Instead of electrical tape which will get sticky with heat and time, try using some tennis racket grip tape or bicycle handle bar tape. Good selection of colors, thin or thick, gel or not. I've gotten about 9K miles on my current wrap and they're just starting to show some wear. The grip is good in wet or dry.
