Default Carb Issues- HELP!

I have a 91 F2 and the bike had been sitting for about 6 months and refused to start. I drained the tank, put fresh gas in and cleaned out the carbs and put new plugs in. The bike started up but was having problems idling without the choke on. After another attempt to clean no luck. The mechanic at the local Honda shop told me that they would probably need to be cleaned in a "hot tank" to remove debris in the idle circuit.

I ended up buying a used set of carbs on e-bay. I put them on and the bike started right up and idled perfectly, good through the whole rev range. I rode the bike about 20 miles and at the end of the ride the bike would not run without the choke on. After sitting for another two weeks or so, it would not even start.

Last week I gave it another attempt to clean them out. This time I disconnected the tank and bypassed the vacuum valve to the petcock and installed a clean plastic hose to the fuel rail. Fuel flow looked fine, it does NOT appear to be a fuel delivery issue to the carbs. I have had the carbs off and cleaned out numerous times and no luck. Each time I have had them off they appear spotless Is it possible there is some kind of ignition issue instead. I'm really at the end of my rope. I will pull the plugs tomorrow to see if I can get a read on a rich vs. lean condition.

Thanks

Well, when you clean them are you unscrewing the jets? ARe you then inspecting that all the holes are cleared out and visible? Are you cleaning with thin wires and with an air compressor and carb cleaner?

If you aren't, there is no guarantee you're doing the job right. Also your petcock could be gummed up, drain the tank, pull the petcock and blow it out with an air compressor just to be sure.

I'd take the carbs apart, clean everything through and through, drain tank and fill it with good gas. Took me quite a few times to get mine right. You'll get quite good at pulling them, cleaning them, and putting it all back together. Might try an inline clear gas filter to *see* the flow, also a quick disconnect fuel line saves frustration. You'll get it right if you have the patience to stay with it. If not you can always pay somebody to do it for you.

ok, so I got everything back together and it starts up fine and runs strong in the upper RPM range. There still seems to be a little hesitation right off idle and it is a little slow to return to idle after throttle is applied. The bike is rideable but it is annoying and not tuned 100% correctly. From what I've read this could be a lean condition. I tried backing out the D head screws another half turn (backed out 2.5 turns now total) , but it didn't seem to do that much.

I can try to pull the plugs, but I don't know how much that is going to tell me if my condition is only occurring in the idle or pilot circuit. Not sure what to do now.

It also seems as though the idle speed is increasing a tad once the bike is up to temperature after being out on the road.

Thanks
