Default Possible carb issues???

I just bought a 95 CBR 900RR that has a 97 RR motor. The problem that I am having is through 1st through 3rd acceleration seems fine, but the higher gears im getting some bogging issues. I was told to run some VMAX through the fuel system and that may clear it up. What do u guys suggest? Where would b a good website to buy a carb rebuild kit if that is the problem? Any help is appreciated. BTW this is my first 900, ive always ridden 600's

Default Carb rebuild

Hi,
First post here. Just got a 93 900rr this past weekend. I inquired about a rebuild kit and there really isnt one available. At least according to a shop that I went to. He said to bring the carbs in which I did and all that was needed was some float needles that were $6 each and just some cleaning. There was a tool that he sold me that cleans out the jets. Looks like a bunch of wire pipe cleaners. I guess a similar tool is used to clean welding tips. It was explained to me that there was not a rebuild kit because the carbs were fairly reliable. To make a long story short, all I needed was a good cleaning. 3 cans of carb cleaner later the carbs are back on the bike. Hope this is of some help to you.

your problem is most likely a mis-adjustment of your needle height or you have debris in your needle jets. It could be your pilot jet but since your saying this happens on acceleration I would think needle. It might only be one carb, and you can tell which one has a clog by pulling your spark plugs and seeing if any of them look wet or different than the others. Also look at the plugs and see what color they are. White means lean, black or sooty means rich, and light brown means good. This will give a direction to go in. You should pull the carbs and inspect them very carefully before cleaning them. The best possible way to clean your carbs is an ultrasonic cleaner, so see if there is one anywhere near you. When you install it all again see if that made a difference. If you have an exhaust then you might want to adjust your needle height. Spits and Sputters are usually from a rich condition. Good luck

pull ur carbs off , pull the jets out and blow with your air compressor(makeing sure they are open put them up to a lighting source and check) also check ur float operation, then get on the road!!!

Thanx for all the help guys I have ordered all new floats and i ordered a stage 1 jet kit(I was gonna jet it in the future but while its apart I figured Y not). I have a 2 brothers slip-on so how do u guys think she will run after she gets the new jets, floats and carbs cleaned? Ive always owned CBR 600's so im just curious in the power difference from a 600 to a 900? Once again thanx for all the help[ and I cant wait to getmy bike back next week!!!!

Is there a big power difference from a 600 to a 900? Oh, you are definitely in for a treat. The bike has a heap more torque and when it hits the mid RPMs you better be pointing in the direction you want to go, cause your gonna be there quick. Ever pull a power wheelie with your 600, cause they are 3 times easier on a 900. Do you know anyone who has a 9? Because if so, you might want to have them ride your bike after you do the carb work. They will have a better feel for how the bike should ride than you will. If not, its not that hard to dial in the carbs, your kit should come with instructions for how to adjust your pilot and needle heights, and Two Bros is a popular name so someone on here can probably offer you their setup. I am not sure you needed the new floats but it can't hurt so have at it. With the 2 Bros, you will probably be around 5-10 ponies over stock on a properly jetted bike, and that sounds small but believe me, you will notice it. Your bike will also be pretty loud so watch for your local constable. Good luck if you need tuning advice just ask.

It could have been the plugs all along. I've heard several people on here say only run ngk's. You should change them yourself too lol. I bought my plugs for 26 dollars and it didn't take long to put them in at all
