Carb issues?
I have a 87 600 that I've been rebuilding for the past year. All that's left is some fine tunning and finishing the paint. I'm having an issue with the idle and am hoping someone has some ideas. Last fall I went through and cleaned the carbs. I found that the main jets had been changed from 105 to 112. The bike has a Vance and Hines super sport slip on. The air box was stock, but I have modified it and have a K and N air filter. I also just adjusted the valve clearances. I can start the bike with full choke and can get to about half choke as it warms up. Any more the bike will die. If I give it some throttle, it will rev up until the temp gage starts to climb, then I have to keep on the trottle. if I let it up it will die. then it is hard to start. I belive it's pushing too much fuel into the engine. Should I try to lower the jet's, has anyone ran that size before? I did synch the carbs the best I could, but had to keep the bike at half choke. I appreciate any help that I can get, I want to get her on the road!
how did you sync the carbs?
what rpm does it idle at?
can you turn the idle **** keep it running?
i would pull them back off and check your idle jets/blow out the passeges. while they are off, bench sync them per the manual.
it dumps in more fuel with the choke on, sounds like you're not getting enough. main jets only really effect it at 1/2 to full throttle. look at your idle circuit and sync.
