Default Bouncing Tacho

When my bike went down it hit an gutter head/side on, then jumped about a meter into some bushes. Since then the tacho needle bounces during gear changes and at high revs, but still gives a fairly accurate rpm reading once the needle stops moving.

Any Ideas what would cause this?

Edit: battery is new.

Loose wire somewhere that makes intermittent contact during acceleration?

Same thing happened on mine and I just cleaned up the connections on the plug for the gauges and it was fixed.
