Default Weird noises ???

Hey guys my 03 954 under cold start for a few seconds makes a strange kind of chain slap sound inside the motor then goes away and also I recently tightened my chain and in 1 ,2,3 gear at low rpm it's sound like I'm getting a bad chain slap sound like then chains loose but it's totally not any feed back would be great

There's a good chance it's your cam chain tensioner... they're known for sticking. You can either buy another factory hydraulic one or there are a couple of manual aftermarket ones out.

It is a P.I.T.A to install.Very tight area to work with.It is located on the right side above your clutch cover.

the first part of your post sounds like HTEV to me, not CCT. it's normal. it's gone by 100 degrees or so right?

Is it a rattle or ticking sound? Changing the CCT requires lowering the motor. If you can do it without lowering, then you are da man!

I have a top end noise on cold start that lasts only a few seconds. It's not a dull rattle like the cam chain, it's higher pitched like a BB in a coffee can.

Hi All,

I also have a 2003 954 and I have what sounds to be a similar problem.
My problem exactly is when I am driving along at low speeds and close the throttle abruptly, there is a chain slap sounds and feel.
I feel it is the drive chain being a bit loose,(I hope so)
I have not bought the bike yet.
Was gonna buy it today but need to get this issue rectified first,so bringing it back to mechanic i,m buying it from.
Can anyone shed some light on what it is?
Thanks for any help people
