Hey guys, my bike's due for a valve adjustment. Anyone ever done it themeselves?

From what a certified mechanic at a local Honda dealership told me was that the Honda sportbikes rarely need a valve adjustment, not saying dont check it though

 

it's a pain in the ***! I did it just a few weeks ago and it was annoying. The cam chain tensioner is soo close to the frame that it is hard to get the top mounting bolt out. I had to unbolt te engine mounts and drop the engine slightly to gain better access and remove it. But that is all if you need to actually adjust them. Hopefully you are lucky and they are within spec. As for mine. All the exhaust valves were just barely tight. So i had to replace the shims and go one size down. But you should know what you are doing, because if you have to retime the valves and you get it wrong, you could smack a valve against the piston and bend a valve. So even at dealerships, most will give these jobs to someone who knows what they are doing, willing to take the time and do it right, and has the experience. Don't mean to scare you, but this bike is one of the worse i've had to do so far. Suzuki's are easy, yamaha was cake. Kawasaki was ok....but semi-hard. I'm afraid when i get a cbr1000 or a cbr600rr. They all gotten smaller and tighter engines and frames which only makes it that much worse.
