Default Tyre Mileage

I've had the Metzeler M-1's on the bike for about 2500 miles and they are ready to be replaced, or so i think. The Honda manual says replace the tyre when there is less than 2mm of tread left which there is now, but my question was, I only ride on sunny days since this is my toy and if im never going to see rain then is it really necessary to change the tyres right now? I realize that is only a reccomendation but i thought id see what yall said? What are your opinions. Also any one ride on the new M-3's from metzeler? Any good?

If you turn a lot might not be so bad, but if you have nice big flat spots in the middle nothing will make the bike feel and perform better then a nice new set of skins.

I have had my Metzelers for about 2 thousand so far and they seem pretty good so far. remember though, the M-1s are a pretty soft compound tire, so they will wear faster than some of the dunlops or the stock Bridgestones will. Personally, unless there is a significant wear spot in the middle and you are about to show wire, i would wait it out. those damn tires get expensive.

Yea, i decided to just slap another M-1 on the other day. Savin the old tire for a track day mabye or a little 1/4 mile fun. It still had more than reccomended tred depth, but the bonus only comes once a year so i might as well do it now right!

Good move.

Shallow tread is not only bad news in the wet but also if you have to negotiate sand or gravel; and the tyre is far more likely to puncture.
