Default Red Light Flash and Loss of Power!

So I was riding around my neighborhood earlier today and everything was running ok. I was in 2nd gear with steady throttle then all of the sudden really fast the bike losses power and the red light turned on for a second. I pulled over trying to figure out wtf just happened, then I start going again. This time the same thing happens, but the bike dies after loss of power. Any ideas?

02 CBR 954 10.6k miles no mods

**Bike was sitting for a year or so, I drained the gas, oil, etc, and haven't noticed anything to strange, although the chain is a little loose.

It was just solid for about 5 seconds, then it went away, it felt like the bike wanted to die... the lights were dimming etc

Loss of power? Like maybe the battery cables aren't tight? Maybe check those first.

Battery cables are pretty tight... the ****er did it again to me going up an over pass it wanted to die and i hit the throttle and it wasn't doing ****, the rpm kept dropping to 0... i got over the overpass and was sitting at the light, and the engine died, the lights etc were still on though... and then today i was in mid turn and the engine cut off and the rear wheel locked on me.

Does it sound like it could be the spark plug causing the engine to stop getting power?

Exclamation Same here dude

I was riding mine today on the hwy and after going about 100 and slowed down it did the same thing. Whats the deal? Could it be the charging system? I just have not had the time to take it to the shop just want a idea before i do.

Same thing happened to me. I'm going to tinker around before I get it to the shop. If you go to the shop, would you please share your findings?

This was much easier than I thought.... I knew batteries were important, but I didn't know a lose connection could cause backfires, the FI light and the engine dying at high rpm. Anyway, I pulled off the seat and found that one of my battery connections was lose. I recently installed a battery tender and I think the extra line on the battery helped the screw work lose. I tightened everything and the bike works great. I hope your problems are as simple to fix as mine.
