Proper Shifting
I don't understand why people ask for advice and when they get it they say you are wrong. If your way works for you then continue to use it.
+1! To the OP....You have asked a very Technical question. To Understand the responses given. Go to your local Trackday event and just Listen to the Bikes as they pass. Performance Riding is not a simple pull on the clutch task. Simple Fix to this Question would be a Quick shifter.........
I don't use mine sometimes either....especially when just cruising one-handed.....just let off the throttle a lil and pop it up.....there is no grinding or anything so why would you assume damage is being done? I also could do that with my 02 Mustang GT....just do it at the proper RPM and it should slide into gear.
Yeah, they don't last as long and aren't nearly as smooth. Plus they share oil with the engine.
I always use the clutch. How else would I pull the front wheel between shifts.

ok, well, here's another way to think of it. what do you think a a quick-shifter does? it does the same thing, only i blip the throttle, and it momentarily interrupts the ignition. either way, it achieves the same thing with the transmission.
you don't hear anyone saying "oh no, a quick shifter will ruin your tranny".

Well, as I said earlier, it's a valid technique. If you're a 99.9% it's worth learning.
If you're not, why bother? Which-ever way you roll, at least you're Rolling. ;-)

I used to use the clutch then someone brought up the idea of cloudiness shifting and so for three weeks now I skip the clutch and shift with a blip of throttle, makes shifting from 1-2 smoothe and no missing a shift like 1st to neutral
I have ridden over 400,000 miles on all brands of motorcycles since the early 70's and have been clutchless upshifting on all of them and have never ever had a transmission problem on any of them.
Shoot, I have 87,000 miles on my '05 FJR and have always upshifted with no clutch and that bike shifts as smooth as buttah..
The key is we are talking about normal everyday riding and not full power WOT runs - you miss a shift on one of those and you just might have some transmission issues.
