Performance Issue
Hello everybody,
My name is John and I'm new to the forum. I've been riding my used 2003 CBR 954 for a while now. I noticed yesterday a red light on my dashboard started blinking and remained on. Coincidentally, the performance of my CBR was diminishing. When I throttled the motorcycle, I felt no increase in speed. I did notice my RPM rev high though, but no response in speed and performance. I'm not sure if this is because of the clutch slipping or any other type of issue. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hello again, john.
does the FI light come on as well? if so, you will need to pull the ecm codes.
if you have a voltmeter, hook it up to the battery and check the charging voltage at 5k rpm. should be 13.5v-14.5v. regulator/rectifiers are very common failure items on these bikes.

measure the blinking - that equates to a code in the owners manual that will help us be able to diagnose the problem more accurately
codes are 2 digit numbers. the long blinks are the 10's place, and the quick blinks are the single's place. for example, if there are 3 long blinks, and then 2 short blinks - that's code 32.
then you'd check that against the manual.

If your gonna ride, I suggest going to bike nights. Meet some of the other guys who ride, and your bound to find one of them that knows everthing about bikes; next, act like your his best friend, invite him over for beer and while your at it take him to your garage and mention your bike problems. All your bike problems will go away. Do the same for others when they ask for help, thats how us bikers roll.
He is on another forum asking the same questions. Apparently he has never checked the oil since he bought the bike either...as Tater Salad says," you can't fix stupid."

code 23 points to the internal heater being shot on the o2 sensor. do you have a cali bike or a bypassed/disconnected o2?
the bad heater shouldnt make it run bad. however, if it is unplugged that will. maybe you have a clutch slipping, or something else wrong as well.
