Default Oil Change Frequency

I have a 2002 954 RR with about 3500 miles on it right now. I think if I read the manual right, there is an oil change done at the end of break in (around 600 miles) and then the next schedule one is at 8,000? That seems like a long time. Am I reading something wrong. How often do the rest of you change your oil?

Yeah, I would say that you read something wrong. You should never go any more than 3,000 miles between oil changes. Personally I change mine every 1,500 to 2,000 miles depending on how hard I ride. And also if you do any racing it's a good idea to change your oil after. It's cheap insurance for your motor!

he is right. the honda book says replace at 600 then at 8,000. I change mine religiously every 3,000k or less. as 02ninefivefour said " It's cheap insurance for your motor! " true dat!

I personally don't subscribe to the 3K therory. If you use a good synthetic (I use Mobile One) you can go as much as 8K. My Mercedes only needs a change every 10K. Of couse if your very hard on you equipment you should increase the frequency.
