I'm using Spectro Platnum 4 Synthetic 10W40 in my CBR1000. How often should it be change? I hear people say 3000 miles some say at 10,000 miles. Please advise.
Thanks.

I am not sure where you are from but,

i always change the oil in my CBR at 3000km (my KLR650 every 1000) including a filter change, for me at $40.00 it is very cheap insurance.

10,000 is in my opinon way too long between changes.

In my opinon use cheaper oil and change often rather tham spending $$$ on oil and waiting 10,000 KM

And by the way where is the picture of your bike?

And welcome

Aussie Johnno

5000km for oil changes and a good quality oil filter every second oil change. Some guys change the filter every oil change too but I don't think it's needed if you're using a reputable brand. I think 10k between oil changes is too long. I'm not saying you might not get away with it for a while, but I suspect it would shorten the life of your engine.

Yeah, it's a tough call to say when you should be changing it, Mario.

If I had to guess, tho, I'd say you'd probably be ok running 5k mile changes on a full synth with decent filter.
I know there's a guy here who has had a LOT of testing on his oils, and Rotella Synth was still well within spec at 7,500 miles.
But like many say... it's cheap insurance.
I'm running regular dino Rotella to 5k miles to have it tested out with a purolator standard filter. I don't expect it to be out of spec.

I've had my used oil lab analyzed maybe 25 times over the years (race and street bikes). I've used many different kinds of oil (and no this isn't a 'what oil should I use' thread and tried intervals ranging from 2500 to 10,000 miles. The results of that testing have lead me to use Shell Rotella-T synthetic oil, and change it roughly every 6000 miles.

The oil is still well within proper service limits at that mileage in my street bikes, but I don't like to go longer than that without having a reason to take off the bodywork and poke around things in general (might find leaks, other prev. unknown issues, etc.).

Also, this testing has definitely shown that better oil for more miles is vastly better than crap oil for short intervals. Of course, nobody is using 'crap' oil...just saying.

i change mine once a season (once per year) since i dont really do a ton of riding in comparison to a few others out here who actually make use of the 'touring' part of our sport touring bikes.

Even though the owners manual says to change the oil every 8,000 miles, I change at 3k to 4k miles. But always change it before winter storage. It is very important to change it before storage. The blow-by can really crap-up the oil
