I did somthing simular.
I bought the lockhart phillips flush mount blinkers at the local shop ($12)unscrewd the len's and backing, so it just leaves the socket,bulb and wiring.
Took a dremel with a small cone bit ripped right into it
Spliced the existing blinker wire and viola!!
Done in 10min (with a beer break)
I opted not to run the full power wire, so mine just blink.
Now I need to make a block off plate where the org turn signals were.
