How high is too high? Temp question
do a test like this.. start the bike up.. go in the city for a mile or two.. watch temp.. more then likely it will move all over the place from 180-200.. depending on temperture and time at lights even higher.. but then go on the highway.. and stay on there for 2-3 miles till it reachs back down to 177-182 normal riding temp.. and it should stay at that +/- 1 degree for the hole highway trip.. then when you get off go stop and let the engine idle in a parking lot for a min.. my gues is it's goin to go back up to about 200 .. right there is pretty normal for all bikes.. fan kicks on at 220.. if it gets 230+ and climbing you are goin to have a problem.. but when you have time do what i mentioned and let me know
Well i guess you got it pat down, because that is how it acts.. I just either have never noticed that before and/or i got spoiled with my previous bike, 06 1000rr, that i totaled back in may. the radiator is much bigger on that bike so it stayed really cool in town even on warmer days. The 954 is going to get looked at wednesday so ill see what they say.
My 929RR does the same thing rides cool sits at lights and depending how long I sit there hits 219 degrees. Outside temp has very little to do with that, Hence that is why they got away from air cooled motors.
Your letting it goto your head, its only changing 30 to 40 degrees not bad for a hot motor that just got off a 8 mile run and then has to sit there while the water isn't circulating through the radiator.
Like Demon said your nowhere near overheating, the fan doesn't kick on until 220+

the only problem I have in the 230s is my boys feel like they are melting. Honestly I would say that you do not have a problem until you hit 240+. There has been many times that I hit the low 230s when I am sitting at red lights in 110 degree weather.
That is normal my bike will do the same thing while riding around town ill hit 215 at lights but as soon as u get going it will drop quickly I had the same concern and I went to the dealership and they said not to worry about it the bikes just run hot
