Default headlight problem

the other day when i was riding , the bright light indicator in the gauge cluster started blinking and then cut off . when i returned home , i noticed my headlights weren't working . i checked the fuses and connectors , all was good . i started tracing the wires to check for any cut wire , no luck there neither . i have power from the fuse box but not to the dimmer switch nor to the headlights . i searched on here for answers but couldn't find anything that was helpful . hopefully someone on here can shine some light on my problem . thanks

....keep tracing. you said you have power from the fuse box. find up till what point you have power to and then stops and then it is usually the component right after that which is the cause of the problem or else the power would keep going through that component.

it's probably in the plug for the headlight - or at least that's where mine was. i jacketed a fuse and ran a speaker wire up and jacketed the prong on the plug for a quick fix...

wiggle the harness with the bike running. if it acts up, then you've found the problem. it will be something the your moving, harness wire or connector. otherwise you will need to start tracing for power and grounds as it is occurring.

Cool

My light would turn off and on when I would go over bumps; It was a loose solder joint in the start switch. I believe this tends to go out because there is a lot of current (hot) when you start the bike, heating up the solder and eventually loosening it. Check out the video I made labeled how to check fuses; you dont have to have that tool, you just have to run a wire from your battery to the positive side of the headlight(fused preferably) to make sure it not your light itself. You said that you dont have power to the dimmer? Open the wire insulation going to the engine stop/ start switch, stick a needle in the BLACK/RED wire and test for power there with (key switch on, I believe), If power there, then remove needle, put clear nail polish to cover hole in insulation you made, and then stick needle in the WHITE wire and check for power there. If you dont have power at WHITE wire with key switch on,then you have loose solder joint in the engine stop/starter switch. Let us know. Hope this helps.

Glad you found it. Electrical problems can be quite troublesome.
