Default Exhaust Repacking?

I heard some exhaust manufacturers saying that you need to repack your exhaust ever 5-10 K miles depending on the brand, I have a mircon carbon fiber slip on, I bought the bike used and am not sure when the exhaust was put on. But will you notice the exhaust getting louder over time due to the packing breaking up?

Yes it will get louder over time. I had a Two Bros bolt-on and when I took it apart to repack it the packing was completely gone. When I changed the packing in my Yosh RS3 this spring the packing inside the can appeared to be burnt. A newly repacked exhaust will sound better and perform better.

Was the two bros a lot louder when you considered repacking it. I don't get how you blew all of the packing out, They load in so much packing... How long did it take roughly for it to all blow out. My exhaust is pretty quite so I'm guessing there's a ton of packing still. How often do you repack, I'm not sure when my Micron will need it or even if I will repack it

It's not wonder some of the older bikes I hear go by are super loud, because they're running with no exhaust packing... Was your two bros a carbon? I have a micron carbon can so I don't know if the packing will even get hot enough to blow out.

Is it any louder? You'll probably know if repacking needs to be done or not

The Two Bros I had was very loud and had a slight rattle at higher rpms. I bought the pipe in 2009 so it was 6-9 years old with unknown miles on it. The heat from the exhaust degrades the packing over time. I noticed the Two Bros Aluminum pipe seemed very light and after repacking there was a very noticeable difference in weight and sound. If you can seems to be very light then it probably needs repacked.

When I changed the packing this spring in my current Yosh RS3 the packing looked at though you had burnt it with a blow torch on the part closet to the center of the exhaust. When the packing is in this condition its not going to perform as good as new packing. This is why most manufactures recommend changing the packing around 10k miles.
