Distance driving?
My ex roommate bought a 2002 954rr with a salvaged title a couple years back, he had no problems until he went down. He was scared after the accident and the bike sat for months. After he saved up he had everything professionally fixed, so it is running and is beautiful. He recently moved to Az and took the bike via trailer, after getting into some trouble he is willing to give this bike to me for to good of a deal to pass up. My question is it possible to drive a 500 mile commute to bring her home? I know ill need to stop for breaks as my body needs but is there anything i should know about long travels? Thanks for your time and hopefully within a couple of weeks i will be home with the pics...
First off welcome. Bring a cell phone, and money, thats about all you should really need. A good optional accessory is an ipod to help with the boredom. If you really want to be protected a small tool kit with a tire plug kit is always a good idea. Otherwise just get it done, usually when i stop i walk around for a bit, keep things loose instead of just fill and go. Also if your arms get sore a lot, make sure you use your legs and hug the tank to take weight off your arms. Make sure you take pics when you get home, we love to see new bikes
Good luck bro.
Good luck bro.
buy a throttle meister and put it on before you head out. otherwise take some rain gear in case you run into some. ive done 450 miles in one day, but it was mostly twisties and not just straight highway. have fun and good luck!
500 mile commute is not a big deal. The only thing I'd suggest is stopping every two hours or so to rest and have a drink. You usually don't think about being thirsty when you drive, but it's important.
lots of good advice. I support the Ipod idea. get some good headphones that block out sound like ear plugs.
I have these sony ones and love them.

deff with the money(I always keep $50 cash in my trunk just in case, i lost my wallet once and ran out of gas[:@]). i always follow the fastest car on the highway until i get passed and then follow that car at a safe distance, if you see them hit the brakes probably a 5-0, let off till you get out of that area. prepare for the weather. STAY ALERT at all times!!! Deer, blown tires, other cars, birds, rocks, ladders, pot holes, everything happens fast at 70mph, keep your eyes peeled and your attention on the road. Like hosino said, 500 miles is not too bad, will just be boring on the highway. have fun

i did 300 miles this weekend just for the fun of it had to stop a couple times for fuel smokes and water but other than that had a great time. lots of twisties.........definatly have some tunes. i couldn't tell you what was playing most of the time but it broke up the drone of the exhaust. be careful and have fun
Pretty much all been said...get a tire repair kit, mp3 player or ear plugs, a bottle or two of water, and stop every hour or two for at least 10 minutes to give your wrist a rest....sounds like a boring trip but nothing that hasn't been done a thousand times before. Just don't overdo it.
Let a couple of friends know about your schedule and if possible have someone on standby in case you need them. Everybody else here has seemed to cover everything. Just take your time, relax and welcome to the forum.

Have your friend bring it to you, for his last ride. Sounds like you dont have alot of riding experience and that will be one helluva ride for the first time.

+1
Wit less than maximum riding experience the 954 is not a bike to just jump in and give 'er for 500 miles.
500 is a long ride
500 will make you tired
when you get tired you arent 100% sharp in the mind
954's will bite you if you arent 101% sharp in the mind.
it probably hurts to get bit by a 954
pain sucks
have ur buddy trailer the bike to you or rent /borrow a pickup
