It's been just over 6 weeks since my accident. I am healing much faster than everyone expected. I have never been one to let something keep me down and my plan was to be back racing within 2 months. I have been walking on my ankle for just over a week. I get some pain with walking but it's not that bad. My ribs are almost healed up and only cause mild discomfort now with coughing or sneezing. My worst pain is actually my left little finger. Its broke and didn't get fixed so it will have to heal on its own.

As for my bike it's ready to race this weekend. Since I had a spare left fairing and tail it cost me around $500 to fix my bike and that was with new OEM parts. A new upper cowl from partszilla.com is only $273.

I got some help replacing my gear. A family member sent me the Scorpion helmet below for free. He barely used it before he traded for a Harley. I got a new pair of pants on Ebay for $150 and also purchased a new pair of Knox Handroid gloves. The gloves are expensive but did a fantastic job during my crash so I had to get another pair of them.

Most people expected me to quit racing after this accident. It has had the opposite effect on me. I am more determined than ever to get back to racing and win some races this year. I took my street car to the track last Friday night. This was only the second time I have raced it and I got down to 7 in footbrake class against race cars and lost in the finals of the street class.

The pics below are of my 954 after repairs. If the weather is good I plan to go test it Friday night.

Glad you are almost healed, and revin to get back on the horse. Same happened to me - when I crashed and was in the hospital, my wife and my mother were both saying that "I guess that's it for biking". Little did they know... When I got home from the hospital I picked up my Twist of the Wrist and figured out what I did wrong.

The bike looks great. It sounds like you're feeling great.

That's really good to hear Doc! I'm glad to see you have such a positive attitude, and that you're not going to give it up!

I LOVED my Scorpion lid. I hope you like yours.

I made my return to drag racing tonight just 2 months since my accident. Only got 2 test runs before we got rained out. Just my luck. I am pleased considering the dial-in on my bike from the crash was a 6.45 and my first run was an .06rt 6.51et and the second an .02rt 6.46et. My times will only get better since my new pants, gloves and helmet were a little tight keeping me from being as comfortable as I would like to be.

Finally made my return to bracket racing this past weekend. The previous weekend was a rainout after my 2 practice runs. Since I was off for the long holiday weekend I decided to race everyday. Tested Thursday night at a street event in Bristol, TN with it being my first time running 1/4 since crash. Ran my best 1/4 mile nitrous pass of 9.68@144mph.

Friday and Saturday I ran at Cherokee Raceway my home track and went rounds both nights and started to get comfortable and relaxed again. I will say I was nervous starting the weekend. When you have moderate pain in your hand while putting on your gloves in reminds you of why your hand hurts.

On Friday night a good racing friend asked if I wanted to travel with him to Music City Raceway just north of Nashville on Sunday for another bike only race. How could I say NO? Put my bike in his trailer sat night and within 5 hours of finishing sat nights race we were on the road to another race. It turned out to be a great day of racing being my first time at this 1/8 mile track. First round bye for me. Good start to calm my nerves. Second rd I had .004 red light. Good thing they had 1st or 2nd round buy backs. Third round other guy red lighted on me. Fourth round I just drilled the other guy with a great pass. My friend lost to a .0000 margin in the 4th rd. The computer goes to 12 numbers so tough loss for him. In semifinal I get the guy who knocked out my friend. I was getting a big spot from 5.72 to my 6.42 dial. Had great RT but spun for first time all day. Thankfully I have nitrous. As soon as bike hooked I starting spraying. Sprayed enough to be able to lift at the line to take the win without breaking out. Here I am in final of my first bike only race this year. I know the guy I am up against and he just won Pro ET so I know I need a good run in final. Tried to stay calm but ended my day with a .002 red light in final while he had his worst light all day. Damn I was so close. If my light had just been green there was no way he could catch me. Oh well still an amazing weekend of racing for me to end it with a runner-up finish in Street ET.

Sounds like one hell of a come-back.
